A Memorable Rugby Final for Alcester

The Alcester Rugby Football Club Under 14s had a great experience on Sunday 26th April, playing in the Final for the Warwickshire Plate. Their hard work, commitment and wins throughout the season had earned them this memorable day out. The opposition was Old Laurentians and the match was played under a clear blue sky at Broadstreet RFC, Coventry.

The Old Laurentians got off to a lightning start and scored three tries in quick succession. However, Alcester did not give up and slowly clawed their way back into the game, scoring two tries themselves. Unfortunately, this was not enough for Alcester and the Laurentians maintained their lead to the end, earning a deserved victory.

For the Alcester U14s, two finals in two years is a great success. This is a small team with few (if any) substitutes, which frequently play against larger teams who, as we saw in the Final, can use substitutes at will. The Alcester U14s have formed into a second family and a great group of friends. There was still a lot of singing and dancing on the coach ride home!

So, if you live in the area and want to make new friends, or are frustrated with football, or want to get more fit, come along to Alcester RFC and try out the sport. The summer is a great time to join as you will learn the game before the next season starts in September. You will get a warm welcome and there are a range of options including touch rugby.

Who knows…you may even be the person who wins us the Final next year!
